Rory has arrived and i think he will spark a rebellion, and they will tie up their inconsiderate care workers and go on a blood frenzy murdering people with wires suspended between two speeding wheel chairs, decapitating people.

Semiotic analysis

1 Denotation- The main character is sat facing out the window, the connotation of this are that he is wishing for and escape he is also separated from the group with the same connotations. The other are sat in rows, the connotations of this is that they aren't being treated like individuals and are trapped in a sterile environment.

2 He is sat retrained in his wheelchair, but is wearing a punky ear ring and has blonde spiked hair, the connotation suggest he is a rebel.

3 Rory is separate, he is also bathed in light and is in brighter attire, this suggest he is a more lively character, rather than the background of musty grey and awkwardness at the strange new arrival.

Mise en scene

All the characters except Rory have drab costumes to mirror their dull lives in the care home. The first shot we see of Rory is him behind a almost cage like door. Showing perhaps he is trapped.

Camera work.

The shots have lots of wheelchairs in the background as if they are insignificant.

Disability is represented in a range of ways with a range of tools within the extract. Mise en scene, editing, camera work and sound, are among the aspects portraying disability.

The mise en scene of the props and costumes mirrors the lives of the disabled shown in the film; dull, boring and ordered. The orderly position of the objects reflects that they have no control of there life. However, in shot of Rory by the light, it could foreshadow and portray that he brings hope to the community, breaking away from the repetitive lifestyle. The camera work in this piece is mainly composed of mid-shots and close-ups, for example the close up on Michael shows his emotion and sadness, also the rest of the group are out of focus, representing the importance of Michael in the film. The diagetic sound of the bagpuss narator dring the scenes inside the TV room is very condescending. Also the Non-diagetic sound of the background music is like a distant ambient piece adding to the effect the loneliness of the people.

The editing in the clip is very subtle and almost unrecognisable; this ensures that the clip is very realistic and also doesn't take the focus off the content we should be looking at such as the dialogue and setting. If the clip had a different style of editing then it would be less believable and might almost make it slightly comical. I think the current editing used keeps it serious and suitable for the topic of the film. The lack of editing could also represent the slow paced life that the residents are leading theres no jumping clips and they are all very slow and not paced fast; a representation of what the residents are like.
